EuMW / MTT-S Sustainable Microwave Technologies Design & Demo Competition
Competition Overview:
We are seeking demos which demonstrate how microwave technologies could deliver a “sustainable tomorrow”. The competition encompasses table-top demonstrations and a short pitch (5 minutes) which exemplify how microwave engineering and sustainability interact.
Technical Focus & Scope:
Sustainable Microwave Technologies is a broad topic. The competition is open to topics across the MHz to THz community, as long as the technology demonstration could have an impact on sustainability. The sustainability impact could include emissions or energy reduction, enabling circularity through recycling or re-use, and/or reducing waste. Example topics include, but are not limited to:
- Recyclable or circular RF electronics
- Efficiency improvement in power amplifiers for lower energy consumption
- Use of green (biodegradable, low-impact, low-waste etc) materials in RF circuit fabrication
- Wireless power transfer and battery-free RF electronics
- Low-power RF sensing and ISAC including device-free remote sensors
- Microwave processing or sensing for sustainable industrial processes
In addition to the technical demo, the teams are expected to introduce and quantify the sustainability gains related to their design, for example through life cycle assessment (LCA/LCI).
Assessment Criteria:
A panel of judges across the microwave and electronics sustainability community will evaluate the demos based on technical advance, presentation quality, and potential for a quantifiable environmental impact.
Prizes:
Cash prizes will be awarded to the top 3 winning entries ($1,500, $1,000, and $500).
The top entries will get an opportunity to share their work in the IEEE Microwave Magazine, through the Green RF Engineering Column.
To Enter:
The deadline for submission of proposals is 30th June, 2026.
